Manta Manual

Chapter 18

Keyboard Shortcuts

Every Manta shortcut at a glance, grouped by topic. The command palette (⇧⌘P) shows each command's shortcut next to it – plugin commands too. The menu bar lists every command with its shortcut as well (File, Edit, View, Go, Window), like Finder – so apps that show the active app's shortcuts find all of Manta's. Clicking a menu command runs it.

When shortcuts don't work

  • In a text field (filter, path, dialog fields) only ⇧⌘P, ⇧⌘G, ⌘, and ⌘? work; all other keys belong to the field.
  • In the terminal, ⌘C, ⌘V, ⌘A, ⌘K, ⌘←, ⌘→ and ⌘⌫ belong to the terminal. Click into the file list to give the keyboard back to Manta.
  • In the Settings, Compare & Sync and preview windows only their own shortcuts work.

Keyboard-only use

You can use Manta entirely from the keyboard.

KeyWhat it does
⌃F5Move the keyboard focus into the controls, starting in the toolbar (like macOS "Move focus to the window toolbar")
⇥ / ⇧⇥In the controls: next / previous – toolbar → sidebar → panes (path bar, column headers, file list) → status bar, then round again
↑ ↓ ← →In the sidebar, dialogs and option lists: to the next control in that direction
Space / ↩Press the focused button, option or switch
escLeave the controls – the file list has the keyboard again; in dialogs: cancel
⇥ / ⇧⇥ in the file listTo the next / previous pane
  • The file list is one Tab stop per pane (not every row). While it has the focus, all file list shortcuts work: arrows, ↩, Space, typing to jump.
  • A focus ring in the accent colour shows which control has the keyboard. Mouse clicks don't show it.
  • Dialogs keep the focus: ⇥ only moves through their fields and buttons. When they close (Settings too), the focus goes back to where it was.
  • With Keyboard navigation turned on in System Settings (Keyboard) everything works the same; ⌃F5 is "Move focus to the window toolbar" there too.

Differences from Finder

⌘DDuplicateSplit Pane
⇧⌘DOpen DesktopClose Pane
⇧⌘PShow PreviewCommand Palette
⌘RShow OriginalRefresh
⌥⌘CCopy pathnameCompress…
⌥⌘LOpen DownloadsShow Transfers
⌫–Enclosing Folder

Like in Finder: ⌘⌫ moves to the Trash, ⌥⌘⌫ deletes immediately, ⇧⌘⌫ empties the Trash, ⌘T opens a new tab, ⌘Y opens Quick Look, ⇧⌘N, ⇧⌘G, ⇧⌘., ⌘[ / ⌘], ⌘↑ / ⌘↓, ⌘1 – ⌘4, ⌘K and ⌃⌘T (Add to Sidebar/Favorites). Dragging preselects Copy, also on the same volume (Finder moves there); ⌘ preselects Move.

Note

Changed in this version: ⌘T opens a new tab (before: ⇧⌘T), Transfers moved to ⌥⌘L (before: ⌘T), ⌘⌫ moves local items to the Trash (before: permanent delete; that is now ⌥⌘⌫). Manta shows this once after the update.
