Manta 0.4.2 – new files, container controls, rename by click

• New File (⌥⌘N): in the File menu and in the context menu of a pane – creates an empty file (“untitled.txt” suggested, the name without the extension selected) and selects it
• Start, restart and stop containers: right-click a Docker container in the sidebar – a stopped one offers Start, a running one Restart and Stop; the row shows the progress, a message confirms the result
• Click to rename: click an already selected item once more – in the List view its name becomes editable right in the row (↩ renames, Esc cancels), in the other views the Rename dialog opens

Manta 0.4.1 – safer resumed transfers

• Byte-exact resume: when Manta quits during a copy, it now waits for running transfers to stop before saving their state, so a resumed copy can never append data twice
• Checked before continuing: the end of a partial file is compared with the source before a transfer resumes; if it doesn't match, the file is copied again from the start
• Size check at the end: a copy whose final size is wrong is redone and never reported as done
• Same file copied twice at once: two simultaneous copies of the same file into the same folder no longer share a partial file

Manta 0.4 – faster, more accessible, better connected

• Accessibility: VoiceOver reads files, buttons and messages; full keyboard control with a visible focus; Reduce Motion, Increase Contrast and Reduce Transparency are honoured
• Huge folders stay smooth: folders with hundreds of thousands of files show their first items instantly; sorting, filtering and selecting stay fluid
• Finder tags: show and set coloured tags, tags in the sidebar, tag:red in the filter
• Get Info (⌘I): a window with size, locations, dates, tags, Open With and permissions
• Search across folders: in subfolders or with Spotlight on the whole Mac, including file contents
• WebDAV and SMB: connect Nextcloud, ownCloud and Windows/NAS shares directly; network volumes with an Eject button
• Discover plugins: install community plugins right from Settings (checksum-verified), double-click .mantaplugin files; third-party plugins run in a macOS sandbox
• Live refresh in every tab and smaller updates
• Crash reports without tracking: after a crash Manta offers to report a scrubbed report on GitHub – nothing is sent automatically

Focused work

• Settings and Software Update are now modal: while they are open the main window waits – a click brings the window back to the front with an alert sound. The Help window stays usable alongside
• Dialogs and menus block what is behind them: clicking next to a context menu just closes it instead of accidentally selecting something
• Cleaned up: removed old migration helpers from the pre-release builds

Feedback made easy

• Help › Report an Issue… opens the bug form on GitHub with Manta and macOS versions filled in
• Help › Suggest an Idea… for wishes and improvements
• Help › Show Log File in Finder and a new manual section "Reporting a problem"

Manta is now open source

• Free software under the MIT licence – the source is on GitHub: github.com/web-workers-com/manta. Contributions welcome
• Install plugins easily: from a file (.zip/.mantaplugin) or a folder, with an overview of author, version, source and declared permissions before anything runs
• For plugin developers: templates in Python, Node.js, Rust and shell, a test harness, a developer mode (--plugin-dev) and "Reload Plugins"
• Help › Source Code on GitHub… and "Discover Plugins" in Settings

Clearer about where your files are

• Compare & Sync names cloud folders ("Google Drive /Projects") instead of "Local" with a long path – servers and containers too
• Copy and Move dialogs show the destination like the path bar, e.g. "on Google Drive"

Keep an eye on your Mac

• CPU, GPU and memory in the status bar: the new "System Load" plugin shows how busy your Mac is, highlights high load and opens Activity Monitor with a click. Turn it off in Settings › Plugins
• Plugins can now show items in the status bar – your own plugins too
• Fixed: scrolling in Settings partly covered the tab icons

Polish for every language

• Manual with pictures in all 7 languages – each language shows its own screenshots
• Help › Manta Website & Support… takes you to the website for help, news and contact
• Dialogs name the file instead of "1 item" – in French, Russian and Chinese too
• Better layout for long languages: Compare & Sync, Batch Rename and the Image panel adapt to the text length
• Plugin names and titles are translated now; sizes use your language's notation (e.g. Ko/Mo in French)
• A short "What's New in Manta" note sums up the changes since 0.2

Manta now speaks 7 languages

• Deutsch, English, 简体中文, Español, Français, Italiano, Русский: pick one in Settings › General › Language or let Manta follow your system language – it switches instantly. The manual (⌘?) is available in all 7 languages too
• Dragging now copies by default. When you drop, Manta asks "Copy" or "Move" – Copy is preselected, hold ⌘ to move. Settings offer "Always copy" or "Always move"
• Ask on name conflicts: like Finder – Replace, Keep Both, Skip, or Merge for folders, optionally for all further conflicts
• See where you are: instead of "Local" the path bar shows "Docker · …", "SFTP · …", "Google Drive" and so on – with an arrow back to your Mac

Trash in the sidebar

• Trash under "Locations": shows whether it's empty or full and opens with one click
• Drag onto it: dropping files on the Trash moves them there – from other apps too. On servers Manta asks first, because deleting there is permanent
• Empty Trash… from the right-click menu or with ⇧⌘⌫, with a confirmation
• Without Full Disk Access, Manta shows how to allow it – or opens the Trash in Finder

Manta 0.2

A big update – Manta now feels even more like a real Mac file manager.

• As many panes as you need: no longer just two – split the window with ⌘D and close panes with ⇧⌘D
• Four views with thumbnails: Icons, List, Columns and Gallery (⌘1 – ⌘4)
• Drag folders into your favourites – and reorder them there by dragging
• Drag & drop with Finder and other apps, both ways – hold ⌥ to copy and ⌘ to move, just like in Finder
• Pause and resume transfers: they even survive a lost network connection and pick up where they left off
• Delete to the Trash with ⌘⌫, delete immediately with ⌥⌘⌫
• Finder's shortcuts: ⌘T for a new tab, ⌥⌘L for transfers, ⌘Y for Quick Look
• Folders refresh by themselves as soon as something changes in them
• Passwords in the Keychain: server credentials are now stored safely in the macOS Keychain
• Safer SSH: Manta checks the server's key and warns you if it changes
• Cloud in the sidebar: iCloud Drive, Google Drive, OneDrive and Dropbox through their apps – with badges that show what's already on your Mac
• The manual is built in: ⌘? opens it, with search and links to every topic
• Manta stays free. If you like it, you can buy me a coffee via Help → Support Manta ☕ … – entirely optional.

Permissions one last time: Manta now has a permanent signature. That's why macOS asks for access once more after this update, for example to Documents or Desktop. Just confirm – from now on your choices stay in place across future updates.

Bug fixes

• Fixed: typing the first letters of a name now reliably scrolls the list to the match – also while the terminal is open under the pane.
• Fixed: the dark, flickering bar at the bottom of the file list is gone.

Get there faster

• New: type to jump. Type the first letters of a name in the file list and the selection jumps right there, just like Finder. After a short pause a new word starts; the space bar still opens Quick Look.
• Improved: FTPS. Connections to servers that require a resumed TLS session (e.g. All-Inkl) now work. If your network blocks encrypted data connections, Manta switches to an unencrypted data connection automatically and tells you so – the login always stays encrypted. Choose Automatic, Required or Off in the Connect dialog.

Bug fixes

• Fixed: Manta could crash when opening Settings – for some window sizes, displays or content every time. Settings, Compare & Sync, the preview and the update window now open reliably.
• New: in server, container and cloud panes, the “Local” chip before the location name takes you back to the files on your Mac with one click.

Welcome to Manta

The first release of Manta – the dual-pane file manager for Mac.

• Two panes with tabs: copy, move and compare files, including drag & drop
• At home everywhere: your Mac, SFTP/FTP servers, S3 storage, Docker containers and Kubernetes pods
• A terminal under every pane that follows your folder – inside containers and on servers too
